Summer here in Los Angeles is something I look forward to all year long. Even though we have pretty nice weather year-round, there is a special relaxed feeling that I get once the days get longer and our evenings stay warm. To match the special laid-back feeling of a California Summer I like to simplify my life in every way that I can to make the most of these few months and truly ‘live in the moment’. Through simplifying my beauty routines, enjoying locally grown foods and also by taking the time to appreciate the beauty that’s right here in my own ‘backyard’ I’m able to make each Summer moment count.
This Summer I’ll be staying close to home and enjoying a true ‘staycation’ with plenty of time at the beach, exploring the shops in downtown Santa Monica plus playtime in the pool with my big puppy, Elke. Our remodel will be done soon and we’ll be moving to the new house. I know I’ll miss this pool so I’ve vowed to make the most of our last Summer here. Starting my mornings off with a healthy smoothie or green drink in the Jacuzzi is at the top of my list for the next couple of months.
Each Summer I simplify my cooking, eating and even the way I shop for food. We have 3 great Farmers Markets close to our home so we have an abundance of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. It seems like as soon as the warmer weather starts I lose my taste for heavy soups, pastas and my favorite lasagne and start craving more salads, strawberries and grilled veggies. LA has tons of great restaurants but there is something especially fun and relaxing about having friends over for a last minute BBQ or potluck Sunday brunch. I’ve made a promise to myself to entertain at home more this Summer and get to know our neighbors better. It seems like we’re all so busy that we just wave to each other from our cars but hardly ever take the time to relax and enjoy a meal together.
