What a week this has been! Due to a hurricane traveling up from the Bahamas, we’ve had to alter our course a bit and forgo our stops in Bar Harbour and the Magdalene Islands and now are heading straight to New York City. Fortunately, we were able to make a stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia yesterday for a tour filled with local food, wine, beer and a tour of a haunted restaurant. The combination of our rough seas and spending time in Halifax – home of the Titanic Museum and burial site – made me a little uneasy about the rest of our voyage. I quickly forgot all of my worries and was able to enjoy a day of sightseeing and tasty food.
We started our tour with fresh Lobster Rolls and then headed straight to the Garrison Brewing Company for a tour and lesson in beer-making, followed by a tasting and the Irish Red was my favorite. Next up was a stop at a tasty kebab-style restaurant which featured Nova Scotia’s famous ‘Donair’…

Next up was Pizza from Salvatore’s and then a quick walk down the block for olive oil tasting:
We brought our pizza to Liquid Gold and discovered that great pizza tastes even better when it’s drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
We finished up our day in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a visit to the historic and haunted restaurant “The Five Fisherman” where I enjoyed tasting local wines and learning more about the history of Halifax and the paranormal activity at the restaurant.
Apparently the wine cellar, which was formerly an elevator shaft (note the pulleys on the ceiling), was recently reported as having 13 spirits in the room. The mirror below is a popular one for sightings and I was hoping to see something other-worldly in my picture…
In spite of the weather, this has been a fun week filled with relaxing days at sea and plenty of great food and entertainment aboard the Crystal Symphony. As always, I’m looking forward to spending the day in NYC tomorrow and then heading home to warm LA weather and my sweet pup, Elke.
