I love a good jaunt down memory lane—who can forget the denim fashion days of Justin and Britney? Katy Perry and her date Riff Raff even pulled off a version of that same denim look at this year’s VMAs. Does that mean that denim fashion is back on the rise and, once again, cool? I think so.
It’s in the Jeans
Jeans, the most popular clothing item in the denim fashion category, were invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873. Beginning in the 1950’s, jeans, which were originally designed for cowboys and miners, were popular among teens, especially those who identified with the greaser subculture.
The most commonly known brands of jeans are Wrangler, Levi’s, and Lee’s. Levi’s are, admittedly, quite popular among the fashion blogger sect—they’re classic and come in every style under the sun, including perfect fits for every body type.
Jean Typing
Skinny jeans have been a popular style for both men and women. Skinnies with some stretch are the best type—that way you can wear them whether it’s date night or Thanksgiving.
Straight, boot cut, tapered, low waist, high waist, and flares are all in style, because, yet again, denim fashion is having a pretty big moment. I love all styles, and I say that you should never stick to one—after all, a girl can’t live in her skinnies forever. Try some new jean cuts; you never know when you’re going to find a new favorite.
The style of denim you choose definitely speaks to your overall personality, including how you wear them. Do you live in jeans and only wear a certain brand, type, or style, or do you opt for denim depending on which side of the bed you wake up? I love pairing a fabulous denim shirt with jeans, as long as the bottoms are of a different hue.

Some are well-known, and some aren’t, but any fashionista worth her salt has craved J Brand jeans at some point. And if you’re looking for those skinnies with a bit of stretch that I mentioned earlier, try Rag & Bone’s Plushing Legging Jean—they’re actually denim leggings, and the back pocket has a cute signature logo stitch. They’re amazingly comfortable, too, which goes a long way.
