Cheers to the Weekend! I’ve begun easing myself in to hosting here at the new house and brunch seems to be the natural way to start. There are still quite a few areas of the house that are unfinished – mainly the lower floor, light fixtures, tile in the master bath and courtyard/curbside planting – but the upstairs kitchen and living room are close enough to finished that I feel comfortable having friends over for a relaxed weekend brunch.
Brunch is one of my favorite meals to host as it’s simple to set up and everyone seems to be able to easily carve a few hours out of their Sunday morning and then still have enough time to prepare for the week ahead. I usually like to have one warm dish, like my frittata squares or sausage and peppers, one bread-based offering -generally muffins or a waffle bar – along with plenty of fruit plus coffee and juice. Mimosas go without saying. You can check out my frittata squares recipe and how my kitchen looked 2 years ago, right before the remodel, HERE.
My coffee service looked amazing at last Sunday’s brunch largely due to the beautiful Bella Dots 2.0 coffeemaker from Bella Housewares. I love the rich gold dots and the way it fits in perfectly with my modern/glam kitchen. In designing the upstairs kitchen, I went for a utilitarian chef’s kitchen but glammed it up a bit with Carrera marble for the counters and island plus my chandelier lights over the island. The gold on the Bella toaster and coffeemaker tie in that luxurious Gatsby-esque vibe I’m shooting for while still keeping the house relaxed and functional.
Last Sunday’s brunch was my easiest one yet: bagel service complete with lox, cream cheese, onions, tomatoes, capers and lemon slices plus prosciutto and melon, hard boiled eggs and a Greek yogurt bar with tons of fresh fruit, granola and honey for toppings.
Besides being a beautiful addition to my kitchen, the Bella Dots toaster is extremely functional; with additional settings for bagels and gluten-free bread it’s the perfect toaster to meet all of my toasting desires. I’m finding myself looking forward to my Sunday brunch all week long and excitedly planning the food and decorations days in advance. This weekend it’s going to be a toast-your-own Belgian waffle bar with loads of toppings: Nutella, bananas, whipped creams, strawberries, chocolate and whatever else I can dream up. What are some of your favorite brunch foods?
