Touring Hearst Castle was the perfect way to start off the weekend!  My mom has a 2nd home on the central coast so we decided to drive up Friday night, get some delicious Mexican food and then get an early start Saturday morning in San Simeon.  We chose the Grand Rooms tour and loved learning more about the Hearst family and this amazing project which was designed by Julia Morgan back in 1919.

After the castle we drove up the coast just a few miles to see the Elephant Seals at Piedras Blancas:

On our way home we stopped by Solvang.  I’ve been visiting this cute little Danish town my entire life but have yet to spend a night there; I’m definitely adding this to my list of places to stay and explore further.
