Sharing classic business casual wear for women, which is a very California laid-back style of dressing for business meetings, and also very ‘me’ and how I feel most comfortable. Styling these basic black, white and cream pieces reminded me of a conversation I had with a sweet friend last week about ‘Styling Up’. Akin to ‘dating up’, my version of Styling Up consisted of me making a conscious decision to upgrade my wardrobe to a more chic palette of classic pieces and timeless basics that would help me transition to the luxe life that I dreamed of living while still on a tight budget. Back then I cleared out my closet and began with the most basic of basics – black, white, cream and denim – plus gold jewelry and a couple of my mom’s vintage Chanel bags. I carefully thought out each purchase and visited stores like H&M and Forever 21 for simple blouses and tees that looked much more costly than they were. Thrift shops and estate sales were where I found my ‘statement’ pieces such as vintage furs, belts and scarves.
The key to my Styling Up project was to rework my wardrobe with chic, timeless and lady-like pieces while still keeping true to the real ‘me’ – a girl who grew up in San Francisco going to rock concerts, riding Bart and living on Blondie’s Pizza and is most comfortable in distressed jeans and well-worn tees. The business casual wear for women outfit I’m sharing with you today is a perfect example of how I Styled Up my wardrobe while staying true to my relaxed, rocker-chic roots.
This fabulous ‘Let’s Twist Again’ backpack (also recently spotted on Selena Gomez and Nikki Reed) from DTLA-based, peta-approved vegan brand, LANY is a new favorite that perfectly blends functionality with fashion. Perfectly polished and chic but with a slight rough edge, this backpack will be perfect for my upcoming trip to NYC for the 6th Annual Style Coalition 2.0 Awards and next month’s trip to Coachella.
