Saturday night was an amazing opening night ‘Hall of Fame’ concert at the Bowl to benefit the LA Phil and it’s educational program YOLA (Youth Orchestra LA) which provides music learning opportunities, mentorship and resources to local children who might not otherwise have access to them. This was an especially exciting night for me as Patti Austin, John Legend, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and also gave incredible performances.
Our friends Lew and Diane brought dinner to share and it included many of my summer-time favorites: Caprese salad with Japanese tomatoes, an assortment of olives, Serrano ham, Mortadella, Prosciutto, Swiss cheese and a spectacular loaf of fresh Italian bread.
Wells Fargo was one of the sponsors of this event and gave each of us an adorable stuffed horse. The performances were fantastic and unfortunately I was too busy having a great time to get any decent shots of the stage. Seeing Stevie Wonder and John Legend sing together was an absolute highlight of the night for me, along with Joe Perry playing his guitar on top of the piano while Steven Tyler played and Patti Austin’s voice always gives me the chills!
At intermission we were treated to commemorative Opening Night chocolate bars and coffee. Of course no great night would be complete without an after-party…
Our sweet friend Rich, who was the announcer for this event and also shared his box seats with us AND gave me a copy of the script for the Steven Tyler/Joe Perry portion of the show, also got us in to the private reception.
This reception was held in the beautiful new outdoor bar and eastgate esplanade which was designed by Architect Barbara Callas.
This event was the perfect way to start the summer off right. I’ve got a busy week ahead with more boxes to unpack plus the beginning of some repairs and improvements to our new home and a visit planned to a local designer’s studio tomorrow!
I hope your weekend was filled with fun!!
