Last week I had a total meltdown moment when I got to fulfill two fantasies at once; I got to design my own pair of shoes AND meet and chat with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant! I loved learning more about Shoes of Prey, where you can design your own shoes and get exactly what you want. Janie was sweet and wonderful and I enjoyed spending time learning more about her work on Madmen plus get a peek into what’s next for this award-wininng designer. On display at this event were sample designs from Shoes of Prey and also several of Janie Bryant’s creations from her third collaboration with the line.
The design process, while very detailed, was simplified down to a science. I was able to complete my own design from start to finish on an iPad. First I chose a basic shoe shape and then customized the heel style and height and then moved on to my choice of materials (leather, vegan, suede, fabric) as well as lining fabric and color.
Sample sizes were on hand to help find the perfect fit, plus each pair of shoes arrives with an assortment of pads to custom fit your custom shoes perfectly to your feet. You’ll receive your fabulous creation in 4 weeks.
I decided on an ankle bootie with a stacked heel and slight platform:
I had a tough time deciding on color and finally chose a standout black and white ‘lettering’ print leather for the uppers plus a black patent snake-print leather for the heels and a pale ballet pink leather for the lining.
