The Pan Am Experience, an amazing fine dining experience onboard a retro Pan Am 747 at Air Hollywood, is one of the hottest tickets in town – First Class tickets already sold out through December. So when Travelzoo rented out the whole plane for a recent member-exclusive event, I was ready to relive the magic of the golden age of flying.
I absolutely loved this ‘flight’ back to the 1970’s and the chance to learn more about this historic airline and the golden age of air travel. After checking in for my flight, I enjoyed a cocktail in the Clipper Club Lounge, viewed vintage Pan Am memorabilia and got the chance to meet a former Pan Am stewardess.
Once the captain and flight crew arrived, we were ready to board! Once I stepped on to the plane I was instantly transported to the mid-70’s with first-class service including a five-course meal, a fashion show with original Pan Am stewardess uniforms, never-ending champagne and cocktails, a fun airline quiz and even a showing of the film “Airplane”. I especially loved the 70’s magazines, hot hand towels and Duty Free shopping.
The hand-carved Chateaubriand was over-the-top delicious and by the time dessert was served I was so caught up in the flight experience that I almost forgot that I wasn’t actually in the air.
