If you followed along on my trip to Tuscany earlier this month then you’ll already know that my truffle hunting adventure was the the highlight of my trip! I loved every single minute of our hunt and also our wonderful post-hunting meal that was lovingly prepared for us by our truffle hunter’s sons.
We headed out bright and early for our hunt, which was led by the sweetest 4-year-old Cocker Spaniel / Retriever mix named ‘Maura’. It was amazing to watch Maura sniff and discover truffles deep underground.
When she discovered a truffle, she would dig a little and then be given a treat to eat while our guide finished the delicate work of digging out our precious truffle.
Success! We ended up finding 3 truffles that morning and then headed up the hill to the walled city of Certaldo for a hearty lunch that featured our truffles.
How cute is that little shop? Behind the store is a cozy kitchen where we were able to watch our truffles make their way in to all sorts of wonderful treats.
After a 4-course truffle-rich meal, I was so ready to head back to the farmhouse for a nap. I’ve never eaten so many truffle dishes in my life and each one was incredibly delicious. I definitely have a much greater appreciation for truffles now that I have seen first-hand all that goes in to finding them! xx
