Last weekends trip to San Francisco was full of fun times with my family and, as always, tons of great Bay Area food. A highlight was Saturday mornings walking tour of the Mission district which included stops at some fantastic places to eat.
At La Palma I tried my first huaraches and instantly fell in love with this masa/cactus/black bean/cheese thick tortilla and ended up buying a couple of packs to bring home for a quick, tasty dinner treat. La Espiga de Oro had amazing pupusas and the carne asada at La Gallinita was the best I’ve ever had…
After exploring the neighborhood a little more, we tried the best chorizo and horchata at late-night hot spot El Farolito.
No trip to the Mission would be complete without a walk down Balmy Alley to admire the beautiful street art:

I was so excited to stop by King’s Bakery to try one of Sam King’s famous coconut buns!
I’m kicking myself for not bringing home a box of those coconut buns! To learn more about King’s Bakery and those fantastic buns, check out this great article.
