This image of Edie Sedgewick in a black and white striped dress is one of my all-time favorites. The backless dress, mod eye makeup, classic hair style and piercing stare draw me in and prevent me from doing the million other things I should be doing instead of obsessively pinning celebrity black and white images to my Pinterest. I came across this very fitting quote by photographer Ted Grant on the subject of black and white photography:
“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.”
Here are a few of my favorite style icons in black and white…
Coco Chanel and Catherine Deneuve – I’d wear either of these outfits in a heartbeat.
I’m in love with this shot of Jackie O running around so casually dressed – another outfit I’d be happy to wear.
Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly in my favorite swimsuit shots ever. It almost looks like Marilyn is wearing an ankle bracelet on the leg she’s balancing on – if so, then I’ll be living in one this summer.
Audrey and Brigitte providing me with eyewear inspiration for Spring and Summer sunnies.
Are you on Pinterest? I’ve been on there so much lately gathering decor inspiration for the new house – especially for the living room. I’d love any suggestions you might have for boards to follow!
