Cool weather is upon us again, which means that it’s time to start exploring some great fall fashion trends. One great thing about the arrival of the fall season is getting to embrace the oversized sweater. When the weather turns brisk, nothing feels quite as nice as curling up with a steaming mug of coffee or tea, a warm blanket, and a cozy sweater. A lot of women are wary of oversized sweaters because they fear they can create a bulky look, but when worn correctly—and paired with the right accessories—big sweaters can actually make you look slim!
1. Create Shape with a Belt
Belts are one of the big fall fashion trends, and cinching your waistline is a great way to add complexity to your appearance. Wearing an oversized sweater with a full skirt can make you look big all over, but with the right belt, you can appear to have more of an hourglass figure. Choosing a belt with a large buckle helps your waist appear more trim.
2. Pair with Skinny Jeans or Leggings
Pairing chunky sweaters with full skirts or baggy pants can make you feel comfortable, but it can also majorly take away from your appearance. By choosing ultra-tight bottoms such as skinny jeans or leggings, you will be able to show off your shape, while still keeping with the idea of comfort.
By picking leggings, you can also try out all of the cool fall fashion trends in that department. Tribal, floral, and galaxy leggings are still big this fall, but you should also check out some of the interesting new maze, animal, checker, and word designs. You can never have too many pairs of leggings!
When mixing a chunky sweater with leggings, the key is to keep one item neutral. If you aren’t into wild colors, stick to basic black, white, brown or gray—and try out some interesting patterned sweaters.
3. Choose Fall Boots with Heels
Boots of all varieties are always big fall fashion trends, and choosing boots with high heels will add length to your form and balance the bulkiness of a warm fall sweater. They also keep your feet warm and protected. What’s not to love?
4. Oversized Isn’t the Same as Too Big
Some sweaters are meant to be bulky, but you can’t always achieve the same effect by purchasing a regular sweater in a super-large size. It could look awkward or sloppy depending on the design and how it was intended to be worn. Look for chunky sweaters that are meant for your size, or maybe a size above, but don’t go bigger than that!
The same can be said for shopping in the men’s section. If you’re very tall or have big shoulders, some men’s items might work well for you. If you have more of a petite frame, the sweater will hang oddly on your shoulders, and it won’t show off your curves in a flattering way.
