Back in High School there was a girl with amazing style that I never really got to know. Like me, she wasn’t afraid to look different from everyone else so we should have been friends but we were in different ‘groups’ and didn’t have any classes together so it never went any further than a smile and nod when we passed each other in the hall. One day in 10th grade she wore legwarmers and boots with a pair of jeans and NO ONE was wearing leg warmers back then and especially not over jeans and I went crazy thinking about that look and mad that I hadn’t thought of it first and wanting to copy her but not wanting to look like I copied her…

Today’s outfit is almost identical to the one I wore about a week after Pam wore her jeans/legwarmers/boots outfit, it was different enough to look like my own style but close enough to hers to know that she inspired me and so it prompted her to say something to me when we passed each other in the hall – she smiled at me and said “Fly” – it was the first and only word she ever said to me our entire 4 years together in High School and it made me happier than any other word from her possibly could have. Looking back, I wish we would have been friends and I know that if we met now we definitely would be.
